Interview for the TV Show, “Secrets of the Kremlin Concerts”
Leonid Kharitonov gives an interview in a TV show entitled “Secrets of the Kremlin Concerts” (March 5, 2014.) He tells about his first solo performance in 1965, which he gave at a concert for Leonid Brezhnev and the Soviet leadership on the occasion of Lenin’s 95th anniversary. We’ve added English subtitles to the video.
Note that the performance shown in the TV show is actually the singer’s 1965 debut at Tchaikovsky Hall, which took place two weeks before the “Brezhnev Concert” – which was held in the Kremlin Palace of Congresses and for which we don’t have film. However, you can listen to audio of that actual performance of The Cliff HERE.
More about The Cliff and the Maestro’s memories of his soloist debut are HERE.
You can also watch all three videos of the Tchaikovsky Hall debut (The Cliff, Ej, Uhnem (Song of the Volga Boatmen) and The Ballad about Russian Boys) HERE.

Querido y respetado Leonid Kharitonov
Salud y felicidad querido maestro Leonid Kharitonov
I’ve only recently discovered this performer, impressive. Hearing him you learn quickly that not all baritones are the same -- I only like his rendition of the “Song of the Volga Boatmen.”
The singer is a bass-baritone, not a baritone.
